Everything for God's Glory

1 Corinthians 10:31 “31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Paul the Apostle, in this section of his epistle, instructs believers on the eating of food for idols, the fellowship with unbelievers, and the importance of conscience. Urging them to be of “no offense” to unbelievers. Instead, they would see Christ in them by their conduct and be saved. Paul’s exhortation can be simply summarized with the second part of verse 31, “whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” For the believer, it doesn’t matter if you eat or drink, do it all for God’s glory.

As believers, we are called to glorify God in everything we do. David, a shepherd boy, demonstrates how he poured his heart into every task. From tending sheep to leading a nation, playing the harp for King Saul, or standing against Goliath, his actions were always for God’s glory. David’s life is a reminder that no matter how small or large our responsibilities, they hold significance when done to glorify our Lord.

If we truly are followers of Jesus, our lives must mirror Christ in “whatever [we] do,” in our workplace, our engagement towards unbelievers, how we treat our family, or in our stewardship. Our calling is to be transformed by the renewing of our minds and do all things for God’s glory (Romans 12:2). Like David, no matter how significant our responsibilities are, let’s do them to glorify the Lord. So others see Christ reflected in us. This is exactly how Paul finishes this section of Corinthians by telling them to be imitators of him as he is of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).
